Installation Instructions for the JControl/IDE

The JControl/IDE is distributed in different variants. Each package includes all JControl Development Tools, the device profiles, API Documentation and the latest collection of Examples and Demos. Using a JControl/IDE package, it is not necessary to download any other files from this site.

When you are not familiar with JAVA™, you should prefer one of the fully integrated installers: The installer includes also the JAVA™ Runtime Environment (JRE) and everything else you need to run the software. It is available for Windows and Linux operating systems. The installation runs full automatically and there's no need to have root access to the system.

When there is already a working JAVA Runtime Environment (JRE) available onto your system, you may deselect the integrated JRE during the installation procedure. Please make sure that you have a JRE version 1.5.0_06 or above. The JRE can be downloaded from http://java.sun.com/j2se/downloads.html.

The JControl/IDE uses the Standard Widget Toolkit (http://www.eclipse.org/swt) from the Eclipse Project as Graphical User Interface. To access the serial communication ports, the JControl/IDE needs the JAVA Communications API. You may choose the original JAVA Communications API from Sun Microsystems, but please note that it sometimes works really slow. Alternatively, we offer the binaries of Trent Jarvi's free RXTX implementation (http://www.rxtx.org), also available in the JControl Download Section.
